My book, Bomb, was about the race to build the atomic bomb and the race to steal it. The book focused on the efforts of Robert Oppenheimer and those who assisted in making America the first atomic superpower. It showed how those in faraway countries like norway were crucial in the race to build the atomic bomb. It followed the efforts of a Norwegian team of commandos send by Britain to disable the Nazi hard water plant which was crucial to their atomic program. "We're here on a far more vital assignment-to help destroy the heavy water factory at Vemork." The book also shows the efforts of Soviet spies to attain information an the american bomb. It shows how two men, Harry Gold and Ted Hall, were crucial in getting information to the Soviets. Hall was working inside the Manhattan Project and Gold was an information carrier. The book also follows the recruitment of Paul Tibbets, the pilot of the Enola Gay, who dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The book ends with the Accusations and investigations of Harry Gold, Ted Hall, and Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was accused of being a communist spy and was taken to court. When a friend suggested he try to get a job in Europe he said, "Damn it, I happen to love this country." So what? you might ask, why does this matter? Well it does matter, and it matters because the atomic bomb led to the atomic age, the world we live in today. The atomic bomb and hydrogen bomb may have brought about the possibility of total annihilation but it also delivered to the world nuclear power. Whether you want to look at the positive or the negative the atomic bomb and the work of the people mentioned above still greatly affect our lives today. Whenever you hear about North Korean missile tests on the news or even turn on the lights if you're powered by a nuclear plant then you are experiencing the grand scale on which the events mentioned in Bomb affect our lives. So these things do matter and they matter a lot. So what? So everything in your life is most likely shaped in some way by the atomic bomb.
